There are many well-known, skilled magicians that you might not know about because even though they're well known, they haven't reached magician cult status. Most people know about the magician David Copperfield, but there are many more magicians equally skilled. Curtis Adams: A magician who appeared at the age of 16 in the Young Magicians Showcase featured on Fox Television. He was born on October 12, 1984 and was one of the youngest magicians to perform in Reno, Nevada casinos.

Criss Angel: The only three-time magician winner of the Merlin Award from the International Society of Magicians. Angel is a skilled magician who did stunts like lying on a bed of nails while a Hummer drove over him.

Ed Balducci: A street magician who died in 1988 at the age of 82. He is a magician known for his gimmick-free trick of visibly rising several inches from the ground with his back turned to his audience.

Derren Brown: A British magician who practiced traditional close-up magic in the 1990s. Brown's claim as a magician is his "mind-reading" act. Brown claims aliens abducted him.

Cardini: Richard "Cardini" Pitchford was a magician with almost 50 years of performing tricks and illusions. He's one of the world's most imitated magicians, but no one to date has ever been able to completely duplicate his tricks. He was a magician known for his sleight of hand. Items were forever appearing and disappearing from his hands. He died in 1973.

Tommy Cooper: A magician and comedian known who was a member of the Magic Circle until his death in 1984. He collapsed while doing a live magician act that became his last.

Paul Daniels: A currently retired British magician who in 1983 became the first magician to ever receive the prestigious Magician of the Year Award by the Hollywood Academy of Magical Arts.

S.W. Erndase: A magician and author whose real identity has never been figured out. Erndase is a magician who wrote a book in 1902 about card playing tricks.

Ching Ling Foo: The first Asian magician to achieve fame. He was a magician who did tricks like breathing fire and pulling a fifteen-foot pole from his mouth. He died in 1922.

Lennart Green: A magician known for his close-up card tricks. In 1991 this magician became the world champion of in close-up card magic.

Paul Harris: A magician known for pulling coins from mirrors. Many claim he is a magician with skills like a combination of Copperfield and Henning.

Scott Interrante: An American magician specializing in escape-artist tricks. He won awards from the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Ricky Jay: A magician listed in the Guinness Book of Records as throwing a playing card 190 feet at 90 miles per hour.

Fred Kaps: A Dutch magician who died in 1980. He is a magician known for making a saltshaker create an endless supply of salt.

Juan Tamariz: A Spanish magician who in 1971 founded a school that has trained generations of Spanish magicians.

Dia Vernon: This Canadian magician was born in 1894 as David Frederick Wingfield Verner. This magician, who died in 1992, is known for fooling Houdini with one of his card tricks.

Paul Zenon: A British street magician who also performed in the bars and pubs in the U.K. This magician has written three books about magic, the most recent published in 2005.

Street Magic Trick! Make (Any) Thing Disappear In Front Of Your Nose

This trick is easy, even for beginners. What you do is make a thing disappear right in front of your audience. however because this trick don't use a lot of skill then you must do this trick with a short distance between you and your audience.

What you will need is just a tiny object, such as ball, paper, plastic or etc. You may use anything but they mustn't make any noise while they fell off.

This is the trick...

Take an audience, chit chat and then say "I'm going to make this ball disappear right in front of you only in count of three. Ready?" Grab the ball with your right hand and move it up and down, together with your count. "In One, Two and Three and there It's gone" While you said three, quickly throw the ball that you grab with your right hand to your back as for as possible.

And you won't have the ball anymore and your 'victim' won't find it either. The only negative side of this trick is, while you throw your ball to your back, other People will notice it and your secret will be discover.

Two Free Card Magic Tricks For Beginners

This card trick is very impromptu and can be done with a borrowed deck. There is no need to practice and no sleights needed.

Trick:

You predict a card without even touching the deck.

Method:

You hand a whole deck to your spectator and tell him to shuffle it. You then tell him to count 26 cards which is half of the deck. As he/she is counting, you remember the seventh card. Then tell him/her to set aside the 26 cards counted. You then write your prediction to a piece of paper. Next, tell him/her to pick any three cards from the other half. After that tell him to put the other half on top of the counted 26 cards. Put the three cards in a row order face up. Tell him for each card how many will he add to make it 10. For example the three cards are a six, seven, and a king. You will add four cards to six, three cards to seven and zero to king as it is considered 10 together with jack or queen. You then add the three cards: six + seven + 10 (king) = 27. You then tell the spectator to get the remaining cards face down and count until the 27th card is reached. The 27th card is the card you predicted.

Here is a another free card trick that requires a bit of preparation and practice. It can be done with a borrowed deck with a little misdirection to perform the flip.

Effect:

The spectator?s chosen card appeared to be different from the rest.

Explanation:

You setup the deck with all face down except for one card at the bottom. You spread the card asking your spectator to choose one card. Be careful not to reveal the face up card at the bottom. You tell your spectator to pick the card, look at it, and remember the card but as he does, you flip the cards over. So you have one card face down and the rest face up. You tell your spectator to put the cards somewhere in the middle of the deck. Be careful not to reveal all face up cards. Then tell your spectator that you will put all cards behind you and reveal your card within a split second. What will you do here is you just get the top card and reveal it. This is obviously not his card. You then spread the cards face up to reveal one card that is face down. This is your spectator?s card.

How to Learn Magic and Become a Magician

Is your dream to become a magician? Magic is something that has always fascinated me as an art form and also as a profession. But how do you become a magician, where do you start? This is probably the most common question that spectators ask when they meet a professional magician. Well this is my personal story as I don’t think there is set way of becoming a magician. For me, it all started with the amazement that magic generated in me whenever I watched magicians on TV or live shows. One of my older cousins also had an interest in magic and used to get catalogues from a magic dealer in France. The description of the effects that you could accomplish (after purchasing the props or technical book / video) was fascinating and the publicity even made it sound like it was pretty easy. I didn’t know anything about magic but that was how it all started for me. Back then, there was no such thing as internet – and there were only a handful of magic shops in France, charging a lot of money for the very special items they were selling on a real niche market. I first ordered a few magic tricks that I thought were a bit disappointing. Then I got my first magic book, called “The Magic Book”, by Harry Lorraine. The book had been translated into French which helped as my English was pretty basic at the time.

I highly recommend this book if you can get hold of it as it contains a great variety of material and techniques. Basic coin magic and card magic is covered but also some mentalism (mind magic) effects and general magic with everyday objects. As soon as I got the book, I started practicing very seriously, dedicating most of my spare time to the study of magic. I got my first pack of Bicycle Playing cards (made by the United States Playing Card Company or USPCC) and practiced most of the basic card techniques that are needed in order to perform the tricks that described in the magic literature. Once you have mastered about half a dozen of important card techniques, you can then learn hundreds of card routines created over the years by our magic community. Of course, I must point out that you do not need hundreds of card routines in your repertoire. The same applies to coin magic. Once you have learned the most important coin techniques, you can then learn the routines created by magicians. David Stone, David Roth, David Williamson are excellent coin magicians and I would highly recommend the material they have created. The two most common formats for learning magic are books or dvd. So which format should you go for?

Learning magic with DVDs is slightly easier and faster than from a book, and you can get a better idea of the timing for the performance of the effects. One of problems with DVDs though, is what we call the “clone effect”, or magicians copying exactly their source of knowledge even using the same patter as the inventor. Learning magic from a magic book on the other hand leaves more space for the imagination, and personalization of the effects.

A piece of lead can be carefully placed on the inner side of the thumb, stuck to the tape. Pretend to write on a paper initially while nothing is being written. Have two boxes filled with cards containing shapes in one and numbers in the other box. Ask one of the audience to pick one card from each, showing the onlookers the shape and the number they have selected. Surprise everyone by showing them the paper on which you had 'written' earlier which contains the shape and number chosen by the person. The trick is to jolt down the shape and the number on the paper with the lead as the person displays it to the audience but pretending to be watching them.

How to Do the Switching Cards Magic Trick Explanation

The magician asks for one of the spectators to cut the deck into four sections any way that they choose. He then takes one of the sections, put the top three cards onto the bottom, and deals out the top four into each one of the piles. The process is repeated until all of the sections have dealt out the cards. Now at the climax, the top cards of each stack is turned over, and is revealed that the aces found there way to the top of each pile, keeping in mind all of the precautions taken to ensure the deck was scrambled up.

So how is this great trick performed? The secret is simple: a double-card lift. If you don't already know how to perform a double-card grip, you will need to learn one now, as several card tricks require it.

All you need to do is put one card on top of another while making it look like just one; this is much easier to do if you slightly bend the card back.Once you've got the double-card lift down, you're going to need to apply it to the trick. You will also need to memorize the top card.

Ask for the spectator to choose any card that they want, memorize it, and not show it to you. While they are doing that, (and it might only take about a second) you will need to slightly raise the card with your pinky.

Now that your spectator is content, take the card from them, and very quickly place it under the top card. This will take some practice, but that's not exactly what your audience is looking for, and thus you will most likely get by with it.

Using a double-card lift, show the audience their card, with the top card on top so that they know it is still there. Set both cards back down on the deck, and slide off the real top card, and tell your spectator to keep it under their hand; remember, right now they think they are keeping the card they choose under their hand, while it is really still on the top of the deck.

Lift up the back of the spectator's chosen card so that only you can see it saying something like, "Okay, the next card is the [fill in card]." In a casual movement, wave the chosen card over the spectator's hand, and tell them the two have just switched. They will now discover that what you say is true.

2 Very Simple Magic Mind Reading Tricks That Anyone Can Do to Astonish People

Remember that any good trick, regardless of whether they are magic mind reading tricks, simple illusions, or any other type of trick, all depend on presentation. Even the most amazing trick without the proper presentation and presence from the magician will be poorly accepted by the audience. However, the best magic mind reading tricks are those that are well rehearsed, and have great delivery.

The first of the 2 very simple magic mind reading tricks I will teach you is called "Magic Card Mind Reader." To prepare for this trick you will need to take a deck of cards and cut a square hole in the back of the card box in the bottom right corner. It should be just large enough to see the card number and suit.

Take the deck of cards out of the box with side of the box with the hole in it facing downward so no one can see the hole. Hand the cards to a spectator and have them shuffle the cards as often as they would like and then memorize the bottom card.

While holding the card box, ask the person to slide the cards back into the box without allowing you to see the bottom card in anyway. They will naturally place the cards back in the deck in a way that will keep you from seeing the bottom card, but place it in the box so you can use your "secret hole" to read the card.

Now hold the box out in front of you, and even tap your forehead a few times. Milk this as much as possible as you concentrate to try and read the spectators mind and figure out the card. Be sure no one is standing behind you as you do this or they will see the secret of your trick. When you feel the time is right, tell them the name of the card. Remember it's all about presentation when doing the trick.

The second trick is very quick and simple and it is called "The Amazing Psychic Number." This trick will take a little bit of preparation and you will need the help of someone in the audience. It's a very simple and tricky magic trick, but if done properly can amaze an audience.

Begin by selecting your helper to leave the room. Once they are gone, ask the audience to pick a number between 1 and 10. Once the number has been chosen, your "secret helper" is brought back into the room and up to you, the magician.

Now, you tell the spectator to place his fingers on your temples as you look deeply into one another's eyes. This is where the secret comes in. You begin to squeeze your teeth together, or clench your teeth the number of times related to the number that was chosen.

The helper will feel your facial muscles tense as you do this and will be able to count how many times you clench your teeth together telling him the number. Again, milk this as much as possible with the presentation. The better you are at the presentation, the more amazing it is to the audience.

Great Bar Magic Tricks

Looking for a way to attract some attention at the bar while plying your sleight of hand? Some great bar magic tricks can draw a crowd and make you the life of the party. Luckily there are quite a few that are easy to learn and can be put into practice rather quickly. You won't need any equipment that you can't find in your local tavern.

The first one you may have seen a variation of back in science class in school. It's called the sucking glass trick. It gets that name because you are trying to get the beer into the glass without pouring it in. You'll need a coin, an ashtray, an empty pint glass, a box of matches and some beer.

After you have gathered the necessary props, place the ashtray on the bar and pour a small amount of beer into it. Place the coin in the middle of the beer. Place a lit match horizontally on the coin. Now grab the pint glass and place it over the match and the coin. Make sure the edges are flat in the beer. Within a few seconds, the match will exhaust the oxygen in the glass creating a suction pulling the beer into the glass. Voila!

The next trick is even simpler to learn than the first. It's called push the glass. You'll need a shot glass, a beer mug and a straw. Take the shot glass and place it on the bar next to the beer mug. Assure your onlookers that you can push the shot glass through the handle of the beer mug without touching either glass. Now take the straw and put it through the handle of the mug and push the shot glass with it. You just pushed the glass through the handle of the mug!

For your next great bar magic trick, called the olive bridge, you'll need an olive, three whiskey glasses, a brandy glass and a straw. When this trick is performed correctly, you'll make the olive leap over a hurdle and into a third glass.

Put the olive on the bar and place two of the whiskey glasses upside down about six inches apart and six inches from the olive. Set the straw on top of the glasses to form a hurdle. Take the third glass and place it right side up six inches on the other side of the hurdle.

Now take the brandy glass and turn it upside down over the olive. Hold the base of the glass and begin twirling it around the olive. As you continue to twirl you will create a centrifugal force causing the olive to spin around the inside of the glass. Keep twirling as you lift the glass. Move the glass over the hurdle and over the third glass. When you are over the third glass stop twirling the olive in the brandy glass and it will fall into the whiskey glass.

While these tricks are easy to learn you should still give yourself some practice time to get everything right before trying them out in front of the bar crowd. After all you're shooting for the admiration of the crowd, not embarrassment. Master them and you can have a lot of fun and your own crowd of onlookers at the bar not to mention it's a great way to meet people and start conversations.
